December 30
Brooklyn Bridge from N. Y. City, the Rotograph Co., postmarked 1905. The East River waterfront of Manhattan in the foreground probably corresponds to what are now the environs of the South Street Seaport. The tower on the far right is James Bogardus’s Tatham Shot Tower, which was torn down in 1907.
This postcard would have originated as a black-and-white photo; all the coloring was added in the printing process. The NYPL has a postcard with a virtually identical perspective but much cruder coloring.
